Install VLC 3.0.12 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint / openSUSE

How to install VLC 3.0.12 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint?

  • Method 1: Via Snap
  • Method 2: Via Flatpak

Method 1: Via Snap

Step 1: Install SNAP app (skip this step if snap already installed)

sudo apt-get install snapd snapd-xdg-open

Step 2: Install VLC from snap Store

sudo snap install vlc

Method 2: Via Flatpak

Step 1: Install Flatpak if not installed on your system

Refer to the setup steps based on your distribution and install Flatpak on your system.

Step 2: Search for vlc

flatpak search vlc

Step 3: Install vlc using Flatpak

flatpak install flathub org.videolan.VLC

Step 4: Run VLC

flatpak run org.videolan.VLC

How to install VLC 3.0.12 in openSUSE?

In openSUSE it can be installed via 1 click install method or via a command line. In this tutorial, I am covering the command line method.

Execute the below commands and replace the SUSE Version with yours

sudo zypper ar<SUSE version> VLC

sudo zypper mr -r VLC

sudo zypper in vlc
