Install Kdenlive 20.08 in Ubuntu / Linux Mint

Kdenlive is a free and opensource video editing software, it is built on Qt and  KDE Framework libraries, and MLT Framework is used for video processing in Kdenlive and this is part of the official KDE project.

Kdenlive released a new version 20.08 with Multiple audio stream support, interface layouts, cached data management, and zoom bars

This tutorial will be useful for beginners to install Kdenlive 20.08 in Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 18.04, and LinuxMint 19.3.

How to Install Kdenlive 20.08 in Ubuntu 20.04 / LinuxMint

Kdenlive can be installed on Ubuntu / LinuxMint via 2 methods

  • Appimage
  • Offical Kdenlive PPA

Method 1: Appimage

One of the easiest methods to install and start working on the app is by appimage method, download the appimage and execute it and it will work on most of the Linux distro’s

Step 1: Download the app image

Download it from the official download page or use the below command in terminal to download

wget https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-20.08.0-x86_64.appimage

Step 2: Change the permissions

sudo chmod 755 kdenlive-20.08.0-x86_64.appimage

Step 3: Execute the Kdenlive appimage

sudo ./kdenlive-20.08.0-x86_64.appimage

Method 2: Via Official PPA

This official PPA available for ubuntu 19.10 versions and above

Step 1: Add the official PPA

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-stable

Step 2: Update the apt repository

sudo apt update

Step 3: Install Kdenlive 20.08

sudo apt install kdenlive
