How to Install Audacity 2.4.1 in Ubuntu 20.04 / LinuxMint / Manjaro Linux

The audacity team released its new version 2.4.1 immediately after version 2.4.0 released with critical bugs.

This tutorial will be helpful for beginners to install audacity 2.4.1 in Ubuntu 20.04, Ubuntu 19.10, and LinuxMint 19.3 and Manjaro Linux 20.0.1

How to Install Audacity 2.4.1 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint?

Audacity provides only source code in the form of tar file and no official PPA’s or official deb file formats for installation

But unofficial PPA’s & Flatpak packages are available for installation for the active ubuntu versions, LinuxMint and  for Manjaro Linux

Method 1: Via PPA for Ubuntu & LinuxMint

Step 1: Add the unofficial audacity PPA

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntuhandbook1/audacity

Step 2: Update the repository

sudo apt update

Step 3: Install Audacity 2.4.1

sudo apt install audacity

Method 2: Via Flatpak for Ubuntu, LinuxMint & Manjaro Linux

Step 1: Setup Flatpak based on your distribution using Flatpak guide

Step 2: Install audacity using Flatpak

flatpak install flathub org.audacityteam.Audacity

Step 3: Run Audacity

flatpak run org.audacityteam.Audacity

Install audacity 2.4.1 in ubuntu

Uninstall Audacity 2.4.1

To uninstall audacity run the below commands


sudo apt-get remove –autoremove audacity audacity-data

For Flatpak

flatpak remove org.audacityteam.Audacity
