Install Kdenlive 20.04 in Ubuntu / LinuxMint / Elementary

Kdenlive is a free and opensource video editing software, it is built on Qt and  KDE Framework libraries, and MLT Framework is used for video processing in Kdenlive and this is part of the official KDE project.

Kdenlive released a new major version 20.04 with new features and major performance improvements due to Preview scaling feature.

How to Install Kdenlive 20.04 in Ubuntu 20.04 / LinuxMint /Elementary OS

Kdenlive could be installed on Ubuntu / LinuxMint via 2 methods

  1. appimage
  2. official kdenlive PPA

Method 1: via appimage

One of the easiest methods to install and start working on the app is by appimage method, download the appimage and execute it and it will work on most of the Linux distro’s

Step 1: Download the app image

Download it from the official download page or use the below command in terminal to download

wget https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-20.04.0-x86_64.appimage

Step 2: Change the permissions

sudo chmod 755 kdenlive-20.04.0-x86_64.appimage

Step 3: Execute the Kdenlive appimage

sudo ./kdenlive-20.04.0-x86_64.appimage

Method 2: Via Official PPA

This official PPA available for ubuntu 19.10 versions and above

Step 1: Add the official PPA

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kdenlive/kdenlive-stable

Step 2: Update the apt repository

sudo apt update

Step 3: Install Kdenlive 20.04

sudo apt install kdenlive
